Youth League – OL and Stade Rennais race 8th, LOSC trapped

If Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais, respectively opposed to Borussia Dortmond and Juventus Turin, will have a lot to do to win their ticket for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, France will indeed have two representatives in the next round of the Youth League.

Indeed, Olympique Lyonnais, who fell from Zaragoza (3-1) qualified for the knockout stages of the competition during his jump-off. First led, Lyonnais, deprived of Rayan Cherki, now integrated in the professional group, took advantage of the red card received by the Champions of Spain U19 to reverse the trend, thanks in particular to a double from the untenable Amine Gouiri, and an achievement registered by Titouan Thomas.

Rennes is also continuing the adventure, the less varnished LOSC …

At the same time, Stade Rennais, which is competing in the Youth League for the first time in its history, also qualified by defeating FC Bruges (1-1, 5-3 tab), a team which had however eliminated Paris Saint-Germain during the previous round. The goal was signed Noah Françoise.

Earlier today, LOSC did not have the same success in their penalty shootout (1-1, 5-3 t.a.b.). After a draw at the end of regulation time, the Northerners were defeated against the Danes of FC Midtjylland, who had however equalized thanks to Cheikh Niasse, on penalty.

Note that the draw for the round of 16 will take place this Friday. Among the potential opponents of the last French representatives, many prestigious clubs: Ajax Amsterdam, Bayern Munich, Benfica Lisbon, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Juventus or Real Madrid are still in the running. Suffice to say that the young tricolors will have a lot to do to reach the quarters. Like their elders Parisians and Lyonnais, therefore.
