Benlloch (Castellón), Nov. 21 (EFE) .- Joaquín Bautista, father of Spanish tennis player Roberto Bautista, died Thursday in Castellón, sources from his family environment were informed to Efe.
After hearing about the worsening of his state of health, the athlete left the concentration of the Spanish Davis Cup team in Madrid this morning, his communication team explained in a press release. A year ago the mother of the player who ranks number 9 in the ATP ranking and who was planning to marry at the end of November also died.
"The tennis player has had to leave Madrid this morning, where he was concentrated with the Spanish Tennis Team MAPFRE, due to a family problem," the note added.
"The health of the tennis player's father, who suffered an accident in 2016, has worsened in the last hours so Roberto Bautista is returning to Castellón to meet with the rest of the family urgently," the statement concluded, in which asked on behalf of the player to "maintain discretion and respect for their privacy as before."
